Oh, oh! You thought you’d sneak away with the last piece of cake in the fridge before going back to bed, but the cockroach party in your kitchen has definitely spoiled your appetite? Bad luck! It sounds like you may be dealing with a cockroach infestation in your home. Is your home teeming with these unsavory pests? Don’t panic, a cockroach infestation is not a sign of uncleanliness and can be treated effectively with the advice of your pest management experts at Brisebois Extermination.
What does a cockroach look like?
This small brownish insect, no bigger than 2 cm, will go through your waste with its 6 long legs. It does not fly, bite or sting. Unlike the bedbug, which sucks your blood while you sleep, the cockroach enjoys rummaging through your food scraps and garbage and doesn’t care about the presence of humans.
Oval in shape, with two antennae at the top of its head, it has a brownish color and a shell dotted with darker parallel lines. It reproduces very quickly, so it is important to act quickly when you encounter one. Think that the others can’t be far away, unfortunately.
The cockroach, the cockroach or the cockroach hides in warm and humid places where it can find food and protection. Therefore, it focuses on kitchens, bathrooms and plumbing. Although they only attack your garbage, cockroaches are a nuisance in their own right as they can carry diseases and cause asthma attacks or allergic reactions.
How to survive the cockroaches that infest your home?
Because they attack your food supply, stain everything they touch with their droppings and foul odor, and can carry dangerous diseases with them, a cockroach infestation should not be taken lightly. Here’s how to deal with a cockroach infestation in your home.
Leave it to the professionals
At Brisebois Extermination, we eat cockroaches for breakfast! Well, maybe not to that extent, but we know very well how to manage an insect pest infestation. If you are facing a cockroach infestation and are looking for a certified professional exterminator in the greater Montreal area, count on our team of insect enthusiasts to prevent, treat and manage a cockroach infestation.
Clean your home from top to bottom
There should be no more food, paper, cardboard or garbage lying around. Restrict access to your garbage cans and put a tight-fitting lid on them to prevent them from accessing those delicious energy reserves.
Keep the humidity down
When it’s hot and humid, it’s a cockroach paradise! Get a dehumidifier and improve your bathroom ventilation, if necessary.
Steam treat contaminated objects
Group all infested items together and steam clean them. You don’t have a steam engine? No problem, you can just as easily put your cleaning items in the freezer, making sure to put them in an airtight bag for a minimum of 24 hours. Don’t forget to tell the rest of the family, it could traumatize some of them.
Try to catch them with a vacuum cleaner
Cockroaches can be removed by vacuuming them up. However, you will have to disinfect your device with hot soapy water afterwards, or simply say goodbye to oil changes.
Set up sticky traps
Sticky traps designed specifically to catch pests such as cockroaches can be purchased at big box hardware stores. Equipped with a special glue, these traps will prevent your new friends from crawling all over your kitchen. Change the location of the traps occasionally to check where the intruders are hiding.
